The term counterfeit refers to the work of someone who reproduces something so that it can be mistaken for the original.


To be precise, counterfeiting involves a series of phenomena that are essentially attributable to the production and marketing of goods which bear illegally an identical mark to a duly registered one, or the production of goods that are illegal copies of products covered by copyright, models or drawings.

The phenomenon of spreading in market international fake brands and models is notorious and its most negative effects are, from a business perspective, the decline in sales and the loss of business confidence to the market as an area of development. This has the effect of discourage creators and inventors endangering innovation and creativity. Not to mention the social harm associated with the loss of jobs and the exploitation of labor and danger to the health of consumers, the losses for the government tax revenue and the danger to public order.

The data on the phenomenon (inevitably partial ...) are clear: the false industry is a consisting entry of the world economy.

Overall, the phenomenon of counterfeiting had a very strong acceleration especially in the last decade, the false industry's turnover would have increased, in fact, about 1600%. The processed data from the World Trade Organization and OECD estimate that 10% of world trade, worth 450 billion dollars, is represented by the trade in fakes. The European Commission, also supported by the World Customs Organization, decreases the percentage of 10% to 7% and assumes the corresponding economic value of reference between 200 and 300 billion euros. For the period 2000-2006, in the alone European Union there was an increase of 88% of cases of seizure of counterfeit goods seized by the number of products it has gone from 68 million in 2000 to 128 million in 2006.
